Dial a Midwife offers comprehensive online midwifery advice 7 days a week, Australia-wide, bulk-billed (free) with a Medicare card.
We're here to support Mums from pregnancy through to 6 weeks postnatal offering real-time guidance, advice and reassurance on all things pregnancy, birth, baby and postnatal.
We offer home visits in Sydney, however a travel fee of $200 will apply.

Without a Medicare card, your online appointment will cost $100, and this is paid when your appointment is confirmed.

We don't offer emergency or urgent care. Please attend your hospital for emergency or urgent care.

No, if you need emergency care, call 000. Emergencies include chest pain, head or spinal injuries, severe bleeding, loss of movement, breathing difficulties and reduced level of consciousness.

If you have an urgent situation, call your hospital. Urgent situations include bleeding in pregnancy, vomiting or diarrhoea, changes in your vision, headaches, if you’re worried that your baby is unwell such as a high temperature or vomiting, exposure to infections, labour starting, waters breaking, high temperature, feeling unwell, not feeling baby move as often as is normal for your baby or you think labour might be starting early.

Our short appointments last 15 minutes. Our long appointments last 45 minutes.

For online appointments - let us know by email with as much notice as possible.
It’s worth noting that for home visits, we require at least 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel an appointment. We kindly ask you to hold this in mind when you book a home visit and that you notify us at least 48 hours before your appointment if you need to change the time or cancel. If you give less than 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel your appointment, your travel fee ($200) will not be refunded. The travel fee is an out-of-pocket expense that is not claimable from Medicare. This policy is in place to ensure that we are available to meet the needs of all our patients.

As appropriate, we will refer you to either:
The referring doctor
Your local hospital
The hospital where you're booked to give birth
Your midwife
Your obstetrician
Your paediatrician
We can also recommend other services as needed eg chiro, dietician, physio, psychologist, osteopath etc.

We strive to be on-time, but we can't guarantee this. We do our best to ensure that the previous appointment ends on time so that your appointment can start on time and thank you for your understanding if occasionally we run late. We will do our best to notify you.

You’ll need a smartphone, laptop, desktop or tablet with a webcam or camera. If that’s not available, we can call you on your Australian mobile phone. Of course, if you prefer to have your consultation via the phone, simply let us know when you make your booking and we'll call you on the phone number that you register with us.

Our service is unavailable whilst you're in hospital. It is only available to women who are not admitted to hospital.

All of our midwives have at least 5,000 hours of experience and are endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as qualified to provide services required for midwifery practice. Our midwives are qualified, insured are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and follow the Australian College of Midwives’ National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral. This means that should your situation warrant it, your midwife will refer you (or your baby) to a GP, obstetrician, paediatrician or hospital, if appropriate.

This registers you with our service, ensures that your appointment runs smoothly and maximises the time that we can spend on the things that matter to you.
Once you book your first appointment, you'll be registered with our service and so you won't need to provide those details again - one registration covers you for your entire pregnancy and postnatal care with us.

When you enquire, we'll ask you if you require a same-day appointment. We will always try to accommodate this.

Yes. Our service supplements the care that you receive from your midwife or doctor.

Following your first appointment, we will share our calendar with you and you'll be able to book your next appointment directly.

Following each appointment, we will email you to ask for any feedback you'd like to offer.

Absolutely, we complement the care you're receiving with your obstetrician / hospital and we provide consistent and readily available additional support.

We're pretty darn good with breastfeeding! Make an appointment with us in the first instance - we can probably help you no matter what the issue - we have significant expertise in breastfeeding. If it's something we can't solve, we'll refer you to a lactation consultant.

You can ask our midwives anything relating to pregnancy, birth, postnatal care, baby and parenthood, up to 6 weeks following birth.
Anything that is on your mind relating to pregnancy, preparing to give birth, birth planning, your choices and options, birth debriefing, coming home with a new baby, feeling overwhelmed, anything you're curious about or for those niggling questions that keep you awake at night. The questions we get are varied; as experienced midwives, there's probably no question we haven't encountered!
