"Going Private"
It's an expression we often hear, with many believing that "going private" means having a private obstetrician. A little-known option of care is private midwifery care, which provides women with the option of both hospital and home birth. It’s an option that is available in every State, and word is getting out there and women are looking into their options for care.
Being a private patient essentially means that you are choosing your care provider, and you are responsible for paying their fees (which you can claim back through Medicare and private health insurance). Being a public patient means you cannot choose your care provider, but your care is free, provided to you by the State government.
